• With the race on the line, Berhnard uncorked one of the biggest losses in VeloLosers history, with a 3.09% loss in the final week of VeloLosers 2.  Unfortunately for him, the hard working man from Indianapolis, Ken was able to stay focussed and roll into Paris in wearing the Yellow Jersey and keeping the lead becoming only the second man to win a VeloLosers competition!

Obviously excited about the win, Ken is looking forward to VL3 which started today.  ”I’ve still got more to lose!”.  Visually shattered by the defeat, VeloLosers 1 winner, Scott only said he would be back for VL3 looking to get back on the podium again.

The field is assembling and headed down the road to Madrid.  Many of the VL3 competitors are continuing with some new attackers on the way!  Registration will be open for the next 5 days.

VeloLosers 3 competitors lost over 100 pounds in just 9 weeks!  One ride at a time!

  • While it may be late in the game, Don has found his form coming into the big show down in Paris.  Posting an impressive sprint for 1.34% loss, Don not only wins the stage but leaves the 280’s behind!  Tammy – knocking on the barrier of her own weight loss milestone scores a second place with a .87% and Scott rolls in with .45%.  Scott was cautiously optimistic as he reviewed the results.  ”I lost this week, but nothing compared to last week.  I’ve got Ken and Jess ready to take a run on the finish.  I’ve got Tammy right behind me – I would Win VL2 or I could lose the podium all together!  I have to have the best week of the competition!”

Don was asked for his comments on the stage and all he could reply was “Woooooooooooooohhhhhhhoooooooooooooooooo”!

Adding to the drama – it turns out that Ken’s house guest has been looking for secrets in the Don – camp.  Insiders have also seen Scott working out deals for Fudrucker’s delivery – more on this as the story develops!

With the Yellow Jersey off racing around the country – the shock and awe attack presented by Ken was both expected and violent!  After an off week, working in an official capacity, Ken unleashed an attack that has utterly and completely shaken up the race!  Other competitors were left nearly speachless.  ”I lost almost 2% and could only barely hold his wheel … then he attacked again!” said the VeloLosers 1 champion.

Ken’s 2.55% loss was the second largest in VeloLosers 2.  Jess has not only lost his yellow jersey to this massive attack, but fallen .09% behind Scott.  This will make the final two weigh ins ever critical.  Ken has shown good closing speed.  Scott has the experience.  Can Scott hold off the attacks from Jess and Ken going into the final?  At this point, stage wins are important but the overal GC looms large in the front runners minds.  ”I left VeloLosers 1 a champion, anything short of that will be hard to swallow. ” said Scott.  Ken touts his up’d metabolism for his big loss.  An unfortunately timed business trip may have derailed his time in the Yellow.

Can Scott move up that 1 position after moving up 5 this week?  Will Jess rally back into the lead?  At least 8 riders are in striking distance!

  • What a difference a week can make!  Early reports had Bernhard stepping down, but he came back strong and nearly made the podium this week!  Additionally – our former Yellow Jersey winner, Jess found his form and rolled back into the lead.  Ken was unable to answer the challenge.  ”It was a hard week.  Next week isn’t looking pretty either.”  said Ken as he pulled of his jersey.  Jess was happy to pull the jersey back on.  ”At least I’m going in the right direction again!”

Don was overjoyed to be past his injury and back in the the “Farrar position!”  With Don back on his bike, competitors are scared and as Don put it “In TROUBLE!” as he moved up 6 places in the GC!  Liz, Scott and Erin also moved up step.  One VeloLoser’s follower pointed out that Scott has moved up one position a week for 4 straight weeks.  With 4 weigh-ins left – one has to wonder what the VL1 Champion has in store for the peloton.  ”I can’t talk the smack any more.  I can only ride the bike.  I’m over 3% out of the win, but Jess  gained almost that much last week – you never really know! ”

  • Stage four was a race of heartbreak and pain for some of the riders.  Many or the riders are now learning what VL1 veterans felt, the end of the Honeymoon Phase and the beginning of the hard work.

The most shocking news in Stage 4 was the fall of the Yellow Jersey.  Without any reason to suspect a weight gain, Jess found 3 pounds he had previously lost.  Shocked and humbled, he is committed to riding on.  ”I don’t know how to explain it.  I guess this is what I get for talking smack” said the VL2 stage winner.

Other riders saw no loss or smaller than expected losses.  Phoenix said “I’m like a broken record”.  Friday agreed with Scott saying “I miss the Honeymoon Weight Loss, this is getting harder”.  VL1 winner, Scott was not pleased, but will take his loss this week.  ”You know, I was expecting more than .68% – but the farther you get into this – the smaller the changes are.  You just have to keep your head down and your game on.”

In the winners circles this week, there is a bit of contraversy – Bernhard actually posted the biggest loss with a 1.02% loss, but after failing to weigh in during stage 3 – it is Jason Mancebo coming across the line with a 1.00% loss to win his first stage!  ”I give all the credit to the kettleballs!  Those thing’s are great!”.

In the overall standings, with Jess faltering – Ken has rolled into the Yellow Jersey.  Bernhard has made a strong charge but rumors in the VL inner circle tell us he may not start Stage 4.  Friday has held tight in third and after back to back flat weeks, she could be in postion to really make a charge on the Yellow Jersey again.

Will it be the hills? the valleys? the mountains?  Only time will tell!

In the roller coaster world of VeloLosers – where winning is losing – a week can make or break a rider.   While the stage seemed to be going rather smoothly, with riders riding in longer events such as the Elephant Rock Classic in Colorado and the Fletcher Flyer in North Carolina – nobody could have predicted the fall of VeloLoser I’s second place rider.  We saw Alex shattered on the climb, falling back 6 places.  ”I gotta get in gear” said the fallen rider.

Up the road we saw the ever silent Tammy jockeying for position and moving up 3 places in our overall GC.  VL1 winner Scott showed signs of his winning form as well, moving from 10th place up to 7th.  ”I have to believe if I keep doing the right thing, the chain will fall in the right place and I’ll get this party started!  I’m back on the podium.  I can taste victory and remember what it feels like to wear the Yellow Jersey – I’m not here to lose… the race that is!”.  Scott did mention an all you can eat bbq buffet as an obsticle in his performance – some additional focus will be layed out this weekend.

Winning his second stage of the year, moving back into Yellow, Jess was excited to finish off a strong week.  ”Elephant Rock helped – there’s no doubt about it!”  As Friday pulled off the Yellow Jersey, falling back to third place overall – she had to think the weight of the Yellow Jersey had to be part of her startling gain in the third week.

All of the riders thoughts are in Ron’s court this week as he goes to pick up his son who apparently got into an incident with a car – we are pulling for Ron and Josh.

Several riders were checking their scales as they reported no loss or gain.

Week 3 wraps up on a positive note with an invitation from race participant, Don Walker, for VeloLosers II participants to order a limited edition VeloLosers Bike!

In the ever changing race that is VeloLosers – we have seen riders rise and fall this week!  Where will they land

  • After a rough week one, the competitors in VeloLosers zipped up their skinsuits and set off on what looked to be a long stage.  A post holiday week for the Americans, a big race week for the Aussies – what would the week hold?  The closest finish in VeloLosers HISTORY!  .03% seperated the top three podium posistions.  Inspectors at the VeloLosers headquarters had a rough time deciding how to handle a finish that close.  Our Photo Finish was unavaliable and the distributed nature of the finish creates a phenominal issue in scoring.  Ultimately – it’s by the numbers and that’s Velo Losing!

Last week’s stage winner had a rough week with the Egg McMuffin being on sale.  He fell to 11th on the stage.  ”It’s not much of a loss, but I have to keep going” muttered the disgruntled stage winner from the past.

The winds in Kansas must been strong this week, helping Ron shed a solid 1.71% to take his first ever VeloLosers stage win.  Coming in, trying to take away the “Tyler Farrar Award” away from Big Don, Friday came to the line with a 1.69% loss.  ”I lost the stage by 0.02%!  Maybe I should have ridden a few more slides!  I will take that kind of weight loss on VACATION!”.  Tammy had to settle for third with a 1.68% loss.

The three original contestants are in the field feeling the pressure of a larger competition.  ”Right now, I’m just waiting to see how this race unfolds.  I don’t want to go on the attack and lose my streak” said VeloLosers I winner, Scott.  Alex spent a week on vacation with Friday and managed to get narrowly edge Scott out yet again.  Don was happy to get the line pointed in the right direction!

Overall, the Yellow Jersey will be worn by a new leader!  For the first time in history, a woman will be wearing the Yellow Jersey.  Friday is gearing up for a hard core week of weight loss and the podium is paying attention!  Last week’s leader, Jess, still maintains aspirations of taking the lead saying only, “I’m not out – everybody has a bad week”.

Currently, there is a three rider GC Breakaway with a strong field of Competitors chomping at the bit!

Check back next week to see who is the VeloLoser!

    Week 2 Progression

    Week 2 Progression

  • As VeloLosers is a loosely organized competition between a group of competitors, it’s not fair to have people jumping in at random times.  We have let a few people slide in here and there, but in general – we want people to “Start” at the same time.  VeloLosers III will start at the completion of VeloLosers II on July 24, 2009.

Riders wishing to start losing and enjoying the support of others are welcome to contact scott@scottpatton.com.  We can add you to our google group and you can eagerly await the start of VL3!

VeloLosers is a competition designed to help support competetive minded cyclists in their quest to shed pounds and become better cyclist!

  • It’s now official!  VeloLosers 2 is underway!  16 competitors have come to the line for this smack down of cycling and weight loss competition!  This was the first coed competition the team at VeloLosers have organized.  The added competition seems to be welcomed by all.  VeloLoser 1 winner, Scott, pointed out “The womenz up on the Biggest Loser are always putting a hurt on the male fatties… I fear the results these women will post!”.

On to this week’s racing!  Three competitors from the orginal VeloLosers came to the line.  Scott, Alex and Don all came to the line, looking a bit leaner and a bit meaner.   “I’m ready to race” said the every unpredictible Alex.  Race they did!

From the gun, the powerhouse of the Rocky Mountain region, Jess took the lead.  Eager to get ahead of the game – Jess swore off beer in a ceremonial twitter post.  The rest of the field found a the first “climb” of the competition – Memorial Day – to be a bit daunting.  Scott was quoted as saying “It’s hard to finish lean, enjoy a barbeque and get back into the swing of things all in the same weekend, but I have to remain vigilant.  Everybody will have a bad week now and then… it’s how you handle it that defines your legacy.”

Merl and Don were a bit held back by the festivities in Indianapolis… soemthing about a 500 mile race and a pork chop weighing them down held them back a bit.

Bill had a rough weekend travelling to Italy, but has set himself up for a great stage two and we all wish him well.

When the dust settled… it was suprising to see VeloLosers 1 winner Scott right in the middle of the field 9th place.  Right in front of him was his VL1 nemesis.  ”Next week, i’m kicking ass!” said Alex.  These two have fought 8 weeks of battles side by side, it’s not suprising to see them so closely matched.

Ken comes across the line in third with a 1.55% loss.  Our highest place Women was Friday scoring an impressive 2.21% loss.  Holding the lead from the start was Jess earning himself his first stage and the VL2 Yellow Jersey with a 2.88% loss.

Jess looks strong in his Yellow Jersey, but as we all know, every week throws different challenges at our competitors!
